Did you miss any of my blog posts this month? Don’t worry; I’m always here to keep you caught up!
October starts as the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is always emotionally complicated for me. My relationship with the food, language, and culture surrounding my heritage has always been filled with unanswered questions. I put so much pressure on myself to understand and explain my feelings artistically and poetically that I made myself feel worse.
Although overthinking about heritage frustrates me, October is also about fall foliage and Halloween, two things I love. In the spirit of fall, I made an apple pie for the first time, even though I despise the taste of apples. It wasn’t necessarily a success, and I didn’t like the flavor, but it was fun to make and made the whole apartment smell like cinnamon.
Getting into the seasonal vibes was even easier with the release of Ed Sheeran’s fall-themed album Autumn Variations. I wrote an admittedly biased review, but I loved it and have been listening to it on repeat all month. It helped me get out of the funk I was in earlier in the month.
My October Featured Artist was Empress of Prophecy, a multi-talented creative who explores her spirituality and emotions through her artistic endeavors. This passion led to her latest project in music. She will be releasing her debut single, Respectfully Disrespectful, in early November.
